NYSVA's New York Minute...
If you don't think we work for your right to keep your business, you've never sat in a room for 5 hours listening to your leaders lie about you and then bless you with 3 minutes to defend the industry after all but one councilman has left. That's why a working, sustained strategy is so important.
In April, the NYC Health Committee had an open hearing to discuss proposed legislation that would limit and cap the number of licenses given to vape shops, ban the sale of vapor products in pharmacies and ban vaping in cars when minors were present.
NYSVA members, joined by American Vaping Association president Gregory Conley and Alex Clark of CASAA and a few others waited hours to testify to what was left of the committee, the Chairman and his counsel. NYSVA members pointed out to them that vape shops already have to be licensed in New York City, a statement which apparently really puzzled the councilman. These bills were "laid over by committee" meaning they were stalled and not put up for a vote.
NYSVA reminds all NYC vapers and vape shop owners that these bills can be re-introduced at any time therefore we are following up with the bill sponsor, the NYC health commissioner and Health Committee members.
